Biography
András Gábos (PhD in sociology) has been working as a researcher for TÁRKI (Tárki Social Research Institute) since 1 of January 2000. The main research field of interest are: fertility effects of intergenerational transfers, cost of children, work incentive effects of family policies, poverty (especially child poverty) and income inequality. He is a regular author of publications edited by TÁRKI, analysing the household surveys conducted by the same institute. He has been participating in several European projects. Gábos was a member of the Hungarian team in the CHER (FP5, 2000-2003) project, and he is participating in other projects: AHEAD (FP6, 2004-2007), AIM (2005-2008), WORKCARE (FP6, 2006-2009), I-CUE (FP6, 2005-), GINI (FP7, 2010-2013), ImPRovE (2012-2015), InGRID (2013-2016), STYLE (2014-2017) and Social Situation Observatory (DG EMPL, 2005-). He made assistance for the LIS project during the lissification of TARKI Household Monitor survey from years 2000 and 2005. He coordinated the Hungarian team's research efforts within the WORKCARE project. He also coordinated the one-year project 'Study on child poverty' (DG EMPL, December 2008 - December 2009; leader: TÁRKI, consortium partners: Applica, University of Essex, European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research). Gábos graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1992 at the Technical University of Cluj. He finished his studies as an expert on political sciences at Századvég Politikai Iskola (Budapest School of Politics) in 1996. He started his Ph.D. in sociology in the same year (1996) at the Budapest University of Economics (now Corvinus University of Budapest) His thesis on fertility effects of Hungarian family benefit system was accepted in November 2005. He participated at the ICPSR Summer School (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA) in 2001, studying Regression Analysis and Categorical Data Analysis. András Gábos was co-author of the book Apák és fiúk és unokák (Osiris, Budapest: 2003) edited by Róbert I. Gál. He is also author and co-author of several studies published in Hungarian periodicals (Esély, Statisztikai Szemle, Századvég).
