Biography
István György Tóth PhD in Sociology, Director of TÁRKI Social Research Institute and affiliate professor at Budapest Corvinus University. His teaching curriculum at PhD level courses focuses on measurement and interpretation of distribution of well-being and incomes in international comparisons. As co-editor of the bi-annual Hungarian Social Report series since 1998, he contributed to the development and regular publishing of social indicators for Hungary (and for cross country comparisons). His book “Income Distribution: From the Systemic change to the Joining of the European Union” also serves as methods teaching material at various university level courses. He has been a consultant to various international organisations such as the OECD and the World Bank. In addition, he has been asked to comment on European survey projects, e.g. Eurobarometer and EU-SILC. He is member of the Advisory Board to the Luxembourg Income Study and serves as a board member for GINI project as well as for the IMPROVE project (both are flagship FP7 projects designed to uncover cross country trends in level and variation of living standards and incomes in Europe). Currently he is taking lead positions InGRID (as leader of poverty and living conditions pillar, member of the Steering Committee of the project and also in Privmort (Privatisation and Mortality in Post-Communism: A Multi-Level Indirect Demographic Analysis (as co-investigator and coordinator of fieldwork in the four countries).
