Biography
Our current work involves the research of zygomycetous fungi. With the application of different molecular markers, the genetic variability has been studied in several species (e.g. Mucor piriformis, a post-harvest pathogen of different fruits and vegetables, M. genevensis and Rhizomucor species). The genetic constitution (electrophoretic karyotypes for nuclear genome, map of mitochondrial genome) of these fungi has also been studied. We have described dsRNA molecules and virus-like particles in several Mucor and Rhizopus isolates. The third main field of our research involves a detailed investigation of nuclear genomes, cloning and molecular, funcional and evolutionary characterisation of selected genes. In connection with this, different approaches for gene transfer (e.g. transformation) will also be used and investigated
