Biography

 Dr. S.N.Mohapatra (born June 1964), obtained his B.Sc. with Honours in Geology (first class first) from Ranchi University in 1984. Subsequently he completed his M.Sc. in Geology in 1987 (first in merit), MSc. Tech in Mineral Exploration in 1988 (first in merit), M.Phil in Geology (1990) and Ph.D. (1998) from Vikram University Ujjain, Madhhya Pradesh. He spent two years initially JSA and then one year as SRF in Defence Terrain Research Laboratory DTRL DRDO, Ministry of Defence India. He joined Jiwaji University as lecturer in School of Studies in Earth Science in January 1994. He became a Reader in 2004, Associate Professor in 2007 and subsequently Professor from 2010. He went for an international training in Remote Sensing and GIS from GDTA, Toulouse, France (2000). Dr S N Mohapatra, has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship (2011-12) and completed his post doctoral research land surface phenology and its relationship with climatic variability of Madhya Pradesh at the University of Southampton, UK, and was also a member of the Indo-UK Terrestrial Carbon Group, IUTCG. He visited Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in 2012 and presented his research work in an International Conference, Phonology 2012. He has been involved in collaborative research on various geosciences issues using geo-spatial techniques with leading universities and institutes in India (DTRL (DRDO), Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, JNU New Delhi, RTM University, Nagpur) and also in UK, France and Belgium.

Research Interest

 m. His current research is focused on environmental impact of open-cast coal mining, land resources evaluation, changing urban environment, land degradation mapping and characterization, landslide hazard zonation, water resource assessment studies, derivation of land surface phenology using time series satellite data and climate change studies etc.
