Biography

His Education & Scientific Career: Scientist B, ARI, Pune, M.Sc. (Agri), University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, Ph.D. (Agri) University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka, Ph.D. Thesis: “Introgression studies related to durable leaf rust resistance and identification of new sources for slow leaf rusting in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)”, Qualified for national eligibility test conducted by ICAR-ASRB.

Research Interest

Wheat has evolved in part by nature and in part by human manipulation from its primitive form (Einkorn wheat) into the present main cultivated species; bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To ensure gradual gains in wheat production with a shrinking land base, breeding wheat cultivars with increased grain yield potential, enhanced water use efficiency, heat tolerance, end-use quality, and durable resistance to important diseases and pests can contribute to meeting at least half of the desired production increment. Introgression breeding, marker assisted plant breeding, stringent phenotypic and genotypic selection for biotic and abiotic stress and use of advanced genomic tools in plant breeding will essentially improve the efficiency of breeding for wheat improvement.
