Varadharajan Iyer

Biography

Prof. Iyer has done his Bachelors from NIT (then REC), Trichy and Post-Graduation from IIT-Bombay in Mechanical Engineering. He has a rich experience of 43 years in teaching and administration. He has published large number of papers in the area of CAD/CAM, Metal Forming, Quality Engineering, Finite Element Analysis, Technical Education etc. He has guided more than 65 PG dissertations in the area of CAD/CAM and has published/presented more than 25 Research Papers. He was instrumental in starting (i)PG programme in CAD/CAM in 1998, (ii)Industry Institute Partnership Cell (AICTE Sponsored) and backbone of running Canada-India Institute Industry Linkage Project (CIIILP), a 8.4 million dollar (Canadian) bilateral Indo- Canadian Project at L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad and visited Canada under this Project. He has been recognized by MHRD, Government of India as the facilitator for strategic planning and also for DACUM development. He was SPFU member for World Bank Project. At Nirma University as Head of the Mechanical Engg Dept at Institute of Technology he started three new PG programmes in Mechanical Engg. He also modernized the already established Thermal Insulation Lab- An AICTE NAFETIC Project-one of its kind in the entire country. He has conducted number of STTPs, Workshops, Seminars and Continuing Education Programmes for students, faculty members as well as for industry personnel. He also served as Director, Institute of Diploma Studies and Centre for Continuing Education at Nirma University. He was elected as Executive Committee member of Institution of Engineers, Gujarat Section for Production Engineering Division for period 2004-06, 2006-08 and now for 2016-18 and also for ISTE for 2 terms. From July 2016, Prof Iyer is with Ahmedabad University.
