Biography
Dr. Akram Javed joined the Department as Reader (Remote Sensing and GIS) in December 2003 and was appointed as Professor of Geology (Remote Sensing) in April 2014. He specializes in Remote sensing and GIS and its applications in watershed management, natural resources mapping and monitoring, environmental monitoring and climate change related issues. He obtained Master's degree in Geology from AMU, M.Phil and PhD in Remote Sensing Applications from AMU. He has worked in TERI, New Delhi for more than five years wherein he had carried out number of research projects in areas of climate change, watershed management, energy planning, environmental monitoring and management with inter-disciplinary teams. He has visited Norway and Germany on academic related assignments. He has successfully guided four PhD thesis and 18 MSc dissertations. Currently four students are enrolled with him for M.Phil/PhD work under his guidance. He has completed a Major Research Project titled Climate change-desertification vulnerability mapping at watershed level in Rajasthan using remote sensing and GIS during 2008-2011 funded by UGC, New Delhi. He is currently carrying out a research project titled Climate change impact on water resources of a river basin in Bundelkhand region (UP): An integrated study using remote sensing & GIS, supported by Council of Science & Technology, U.P. He has 36 research papers and chapters in books to his credit which have been published in reputed journals such as Global Environmental Change, Natural Hazards, Journal of Arid Environments, Journal of Geological Society of India, Journal of Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Journal of Environmental research and Development, Journal of Geographic Information System, Environmental Earth Science etc. Dr. Javed has also attended more than 30 national and international conferences/seminars/symposia in India and abroad.
