Biography
Dr. Hassan Imam specialized in Modern Indian History, has done a pioneer work on Mazharul Haque, for his M. Phil dissertation and Ph. D on National Movement in Bihar in which National Movement has been analyzed from regional perspectives. The revised Ph. D thesis has been published by Anmol Publication, New Delhi in 1999. Afterwards, Dr. Imam has diversified his area of his research and study and has explored proscribed literature as new sources for writing history of the national movement. He has been utilizing these as alternative source for writing history of the British India and has published a number of research papers, from subaltern perspectives. His articles on women published in the ART AND CULTURE is based on Urdu sources.. Recently Dr. Imam has been working on a Major Research Project awarded by the UGC on the theme: Posters, Pamphlets, Leaflets and Popular Consciousness: A Study of Proscribed Literature in Northern India,1885-1947.Dr. Imam has also been working on a ICHR Project on Vernacular Newspapers Reports on Bengal and Bihar, 1905-1920.
