Biography
Mohammad Afzal teaches human genetics, cell and molecular biology and biostatistics. His research is focused on (a) study of consanguinity, genetics and toxicology of man with special reference to genetics disorders, ethnicity of North Indians and chemical mutagenesis and cancer, (b) use of cytogenetic, biochemical, molecular and statistical techniques in biological, human, population and clinical samples, (c) alternative models in biology and interdisciplinary studies. He has published around130 papers in refereed journals including those in Behavior Genetics, Clinical Genetics, BMC Cancer, Toxicology Letters, Neuro-oncology, Tumor Biology, and Human Biology. His citations count 862, H index 18, and G index 24. He has supervised 17 PhDs, 4 MPhils and 8 MSc theses. He has conducted research projects from ICMR, UGC, UPCST and MAAS (NGO). He was recipient of Scientist of the Year Award (2006) from National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi. He is the founding chief editor of Biology and Medicine, Aligarh being published regularly since 2009.

His main research interests are DNA Fingerprinting and Molecular Genetics, Medical Genetics, Tissue Culture and Human Genetics, Population Genetics, Statistical Genetics.
