Biography

Prof. Dr. Qayyum Husain has completed all education from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. He did B.Sc. (Hon's, Chemistry), M.Sc. M.Phil. and Ph.D. (Biochemistry) in 1980, 1982, 1984 and 1987, respectively. He joined teaching position in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India as a Lecturer in 1987. He was promoted as Reader in the department in 1997 and subsequently, he was appointed as a Professor in 2005 in the same department. Prof. Husain was appointed as a Coordinator for M.Sc. (2 years) Course on Enzymes and Fermentation Technology since July 2008 to 31st March 2011. Prof. Husain has supervised 15 Ph.D., one M.Phil. 45 M.Sc. and 19 B.Sc. students for their dissertations. Presently 7 students are pursuing their research work under his guidance for the award of Ph.D. degree. Prof. Husain was awarded DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Fellowship to work at the University of Konstanz, Germany from 1st June 1992 to 30th September 1994. He was re-invited under the DAAD revisiting Programme to work at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany from Dec. 2008-Jan. 2009. He has served as a Professor and Head of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Jazan University, Jazan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1st April 2011 to 13th August 2014. He has been selected as an External Accessor to evaluate the academic facilities, syllabi, and standard of undergraduate and post graduate courses run by the Faculty of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences, University of Putra Malaysia for the duration June 2012 to June 2015. During his stay in Jazan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he worked as an active member of Board of Research Project Review and he was nominated as Chief Editor, to JazMed Plus quarterly magazine published by, Faculty of Medicine, Jazan University, Jazan, KSA. Dr. Husain has published more than 110 research and review articles in peer reviewed and journal of international repute. He has also published four book chapters in the books published by International Press such as Springer, Nova Science and Wiley Science Publications. His work has been published in some of highly reputed journals like Biotechnology Advances, Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science & Technology, Critical Reviews in Environmental Science & Biotechnology, Chemosphere, Bioresource Technology, Research in Microbiology, Applied microbiology and biotechnology, Desalination, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology & Bioengineering, Enzyme and Microbial Technology, European Journal of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry, Process Biochemistry, Biotechnology Journal, Applied Biochemistry & Biotechnology, International journal of biological macromolecules, Journal of chemical technology and biotechnology, International journal of pharmaceutics, Journal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic, Journal of hazardous materials, International Dairy Journal, Food and Chemical Toxicology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, Biochemical Engineering Journal, Drug and Alcohol Dependence, International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation etc. His work has been well cited in plenty of books, magazines and journals of international repute. Prof. Husain has worked as a reviewer for more than 50 journals of international repute. He has been nominated as an examiner to evaluate Ph.D. thesis of several Indian Universities. He has also evaluated Ph.D. thesis of foreign Universities such as University of Cape Town, South Africa, Cairo University, Egypt and University of Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. He has obtained member ship of more than 20 different scientific bodies and universities i.e. American Chemical Society, Society of Chemical Industry, UK. His work has been presented in more than 100 different Seminars, Symposium and Conferences at National and International level. He has attended many short term courses and workshops organized by various reputed universities, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore etc. He has delivered numerous invited lectures and speeches at national and international level. Dr. Husain has worked as an Organizing Secretary for National Symposium on "Current Trends in Biochemical, Biomedical and Environmental Sciences" organized by The Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University on Feb. 22, 2011. He was also involved as an organizing member in several Seminars, Symposium and Conferences organized by the department and other departments of the university. He has also chaired many sessions in different Symposium and Conferences. Dr. Husain has been involved in revising the curriculum of various courses run by the Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India and he was an active member of curriculum committee of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Jazan University, Jazan, KSA. Dr. Husain was actively engaged in university corporate life and was appointed as an Assistant Proctor and subsequently Deputy Proctor of the University. He has also worked as a Warden in RM and SS South Halls of student residence. Prof. Husain has worked during numerous academic sessions as Scrutinizer for admission forms of B.Sc. and M.Sc. admission in the Department and Faculty of Life Sciences. He was also appointed as an Assistant Superintendent of examination for many academic sessions and Scrutinizer to recheck the corrected copies of examination in the department for several years. He was nominated by University Proctor as a Pro Proctor to assist university administration in controlling student?s unrest several times.
