Biography

Dr. Amit Mehndiratta received his D.Phil. in Engineering Science from University of Oxford, UK in 2013. Amit is a fully qualified medical doctor with MBBS from Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, India and Master’s in Medical Technology from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-Kgp). Over the last eight years Amit has been involved in doing extensive research in field of clinical radiology and biomedical imaging. Amit has been working as a post-doctoral research fellow at Institute of Biomedical Engineering at University of Oxford, UK before relocating to IIT Delhi as Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering. At Oxford he has been working towards development of novel algorithms for quantitative estimation of haemodynamics and analysis of perfusion imaging using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The research has shown potential clinical prospects in early diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring of patients with cerebral ischemia and stroke. Amit has undertaken research projects in medical imaging at many other internationally leading research institutes and companies including, Harvard Medical School, Boston; the German Cancer Research Centre, Heidelberg, Germany and Siemens Healthcare, India. At Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), Amit was working towards clinical validation of dynamic imaging technique using wide area detector for Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. He was part of clinical specialist team with Siemens Healthcare India to facilitate research and collaborations in Dual Energy CT. In association with IITD and AIIMS, Amit is now working towards development of new analysis and post-processing methodologies for quantitative biomedical imaging that could be beneficial to much wider clinical community.

Research Interest

MR Perfusion Imaging using Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI (DSC-MRI), Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI), Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL), CT perfusion, Dynamic CT and Dual Energy CT. Amit is also interested in developing a mobile phone assisted healthcare system (mHealth) in India; where telecommunication setup could help healthcare providers to reach deprived rural and remote parts of India and facilitate an easy workflow.
