Biography
Dr. Sheba Dayal earned her doctorate in Linguistics from the Central Institute of Indian Languages, affiliated to the Mysore University. Dr. Dayal holds a Master’s degree in English from the University of Madras and also from the Osmania University; a Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed.) and Master’s in Education (M.Ed.), an M.Phil. degree in English language teaching, besides a Post-graduate certification in teaching English from CIEFL (presently EFL University, Hyderabad). Dr. Dayal has more than 18 years of experience in teaching, research and administration. She taught general English, English literature, Business English, Legal English and Technical communication in various disciplines of Engineering, Law, Business, Science, Arts, specifically in the area of ESP (English for specific purposes) in subjects such as Business and Managerial communication, Written Analysis and Communication (WAC), soft skills for the MBA students, Legal English for the undergraduates law students, Technical English for the Engineering students. Dr. Dayal worked in the ELT branch of the EFL University, Hyderabad, (CIEFL) on a participatory action research project to explore the teaching experiences of faculty across colleges associated with universities in Hyderabad and Bangalore and based on the research findings, the study later formulated a resource book of tasks for tertiary level teaching/ learning. Dr. Dayal’s doctoral research explored the language and communication system in contemporary workplace - the IT Industry, identifying the specific language needs of software engineers, besides recommending a broad course-curriculum in language training for IT professionals. Dr. Sheba Dayal has also presented papers at various seminars in the areas of English Language Teaching, English for Specific Purposes etc. Besides the teaching and training experience, Dr. Dayal was involved in the inception, setting up and heading new educational ventures for some prestigious organizations in Bangalore.
