Biography
Dr. Randhawa is the Principal Scientist at the National Research Centre on DNA Fingerprinting, National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. She is a Commonwealth Fellow and did her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Dundee and Scottish Crop Research Institute, Scotland, United Kingdom. She was one of the key persons involved in the establishment of the National Containment Facility (level 4) and GM detection laboratory at the Centre. She has developed novel PCR-based GM diagnostic kits. The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India has designated her laboratory as a Referral Centre for Molecular Diagnosis of Transgenic Planting Materials. She is a life member of the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources, Indian Science Congress Association and The Indian Potato Association. She has more than 60 research papers published in International and National Journals and has four Indian patents to her name.
