Biography

A Ph.D. from the School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Deemed University), Mumbai with a combined work experience of twenty-four years in academia and industry. Holds a Post graduate degree in Mass Communication & Journalism from PSG College of Arts & Sciences, Coimbatore. Has completed a short term Programme in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode (2002) and qualified the State Level Educational Testing (SLET), in Journalism & Mass Communication (2000). Research interests include gender studies, digital inequalities, media and film studies. Teaching competencies at the Department of Communication, Amrita University include Critical Approach to Communication Theories, Advanced Research: Qualitative Approaches, Advertising & Communication, Advertising Practice for Print and Broadcast besides research guidance. Prior to joining Amrita, Dr. Venkataswamy has been with the PSG Institute of Management as Head-Corporate Relations and was responsible for the Institute’s corporate interface besides teaching Advertising & Brand Management as well as project guidance. She has also worked for seven years in the advertising industry, handling advertising consulting and strategy planning for clientele from the industrial, consumer retail and services sectors. Dr. Sudha Venkataswamy has published research papers and book reviews in peer-reviewed international journals and presented papers at international conferences. Has organized national-level conventions and conferences and participated in workshops, international advertising, brand and media conventions, faculty development and certificate programs. She serves as the member of the Board of Studies at the Amrita University and PSG College of Arts & Sciences and as review committee member of academic conferences and journals.
