Biography
A professional journalist with over 40 years experience, Jayaram P. has served in various capacities such as Sub-editor, Reporter, Senior Correspondent, Special Correspondent and Foreign correspondent. Immediately before joining Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as Professor in the School of Communication, he was the India Correspondent of the Singapore daily, The Straits Times. Jayaram has also served as Diplomatic Editor and Chief of Bureau of Indo - Asian News Service (IANS) news agency and as Special Correspondent of United News of India (UNI) in Sri Lanka. He is considered an expert on Sri Lanka, having covered the ethnic conflict in the island for 15 years in one of the most turbulent periods in the island's contemporary history. He has travelled widely, including as a member of the media team accompanying the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on their official visits abroad.
