Rajmohan Kombiyil

Biography

Dr. Rajmohan Kombiyil received his Ph. D. from Tohoku University in Japan, focusing on the area of Space Physics. His research involved modeling studies of the electrodynamic coupling between polar and equatorial regions during disturbances in geospace, using data from both ground- based instruments and satellites. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Rajmohan worked at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defense, Government of India. At the University of Alaska, he investigated the state of the polar ionosphere during northward orientation of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), using a 3D model at the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center and studied the dynamics of meteoric metals at mesospheric heights via numerical modeling. At DRDO, he was a Staff Scientist focusing on problems related to performance evaluation of Thermal Imagers. Dr. Kombiyil’s research interests include solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, aeronomy, and space weather. He is an opensource advocate, interested in scientific computing and is an FCC-licensed Amateur Radio operator in the USA.
