Bhupendra Yadav

Biography

After M.A. in History from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1978, Bhupendra pursued some dreams of social change, while doing sundry jobs in National Archives of India, New Delhi and Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh. He returned to the academic mainstream in 1987 and worked for his research degrees on communal politics in JNU under Prof Bipan Chandra. He taught History at MD University, Rohtak (Haryana) for two decades and during this period also went on deputation as Fellow to Institute of Development and Communication, Chandigarh to study the efforts for the economic uplift of Punjabi Dalits. Before joining the University, he availed a prestigious Fellowship from 2009-2011 to understand change among Punjabi Dalits at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi. Bhupendra is interested in the study of social stratification and its impact on inequity and exclusion. He is also interested in finding the reasons for the persistence of primordial ties and ironical increase in the intensity of identity assertions despite better governance and the improving educational profile of people. Bhupendra recently authored a book introducing the trends, philosophy and methodology of writing history titled Framing History: Context and Trends. He has contributed some assorted essays in books edited by others and written research articles/ book reviews for journals like Economic and Political Weekly, Social Scientist etc. He has also contributed op-ed pieces/ book reviews in leading English dailies like The Hindu, Hindustan Times and The Times of India.
