Biography

The success of life on earth is based on the high chemical and photo-chemical stability of the building block s of life. The understanding of life on a molecular level is therefore one of the most interesting and challenging research subjects of humanity as well as the nation. Therefore in addition to PG and UG teaching in Physics We are involved in Research, regarding the above motivation, on Bio-Molecular Spectroscopy and Structure. Predicting the electronic structure of free and hydrated bio-molecules constitutes a complex and fundamental problem. First principles (ab initio and Density Functional Theory) quantum mechanical methods allow physicists and chemist to probe the dynamics of vibrations and electronic excitations of molecules/ molecular complexes. As biology and medical sciences enter the 21st century, the importance of quantum mechanical method, exploring the physical and chemical properties of biomedical species, continues to increase dramatically. The major thrust of modern biologist to understand and explain biological function in molecular terms.  Neuroscience is arguably the ultimate scientific challenge, and chemists must play a role in unraveling the great mystery of how the set of processes we call mind emerge from the activity of the organ we call the brain.In all our research, we seek to bring the tools and intellectual approach of physical organic chemistry to systems of biological importance.The highly stabilizing interaction between a cation and the face of an aromatic ring - has been a major research focus of our group currently. We have recently investigated the spectroscopic signatures and conformational landscapes of few neurotransmitters in the gas phase, and in aqueous media (PCM).
