Biography
Dr. Harshad Sonawane has completed his Masters and Doctorate in Manufacturing Engineering at Machine Tools Lab, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). He has served as a Senior Research Engineer in grinding application technology research lab at Saint-Gobain Research India Ltd (SGRI), as his first industry job after PhD. He dealt with research activities such as, Development of Experimental Test Methods, Analysis of Optimum Abrasives Composition in a grinding wheel and customer market study for the next generation abrasive wheels. He has worked as an industry representative to bring academic experts, especially, from IITs on industry-academic collaboration platform. Presently, he has been working as a research manager at Dr. Kalam Center for Innovation, Bharat Fritz Werner (BFW) Ltd., Bangalore, India. He has been successfully handling research activities to Develop Innovative Technologies in CNC machine tools, towards competitive product development. He has been in the role of industry consultant for an academic project sponsored by Principal Scientific Advisors Office, Govt. of India. He has guided few M. Tech. research projects as an Industry Principal Investigator. In BFW, he is presently handling research projects related to machine tool design and dynamics. He has been a part of academic collaborations with Indian Institute of Technology (IITM, IITK) as a R&D consultant representing machine tools industry. He bags several peer reviewed research journal papers, international conference proceedings and a patent. He has been in the scientific review committee of Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology (Elsevier). He has been awarded a DAAD scholarship to conduct PhD internship at Technical University Darmstadt, Germany in 2012.
