Biography
Dan joined BIO in 2016 as Executive Vice President for Health Policy, bringing 30 years of leadership experience in health policy and regulatory issues. Previously, Dan held leadership positions at America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), where he served as Interim CEO and Executive Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Policy and Regulatory Affairs from 2010 through 2015. Dan also served as a Vice President for Policy at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) from 2005 to 2010, leading policy development on health care reform and the Medicare prescription drug program. In addition, Dan served as acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy in ASPE at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from 2001 to 2005, leading policy development on the Medicare Modernization Act. Dan also held key policy positions at the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), AARP, and the California Legislative Analyst’s Office. Dan holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Duke University and a Bachelor’s degree in Government and Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.
