Biography
Dr. Satish Mishra is currently a Senior Scientist in the department of Parasitology CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute. He works on sporozoite stages of Plasmodium and their development in the liver. Sporozoites are infective stage of the malaria parasite. After formation of sporozoites in the midgut of mosquito, where they emerge from oocysts and reaches salivary gland. After mosquito bite, malaria sporozoites enter hepatocytes. During the liver stage, a single Plasmodium sporozoite invade a hepatocyte, and gives rise to thousands of merozoites, which initiate blood stage infection. This multi-step process requires several parasite proteins. Using reverse genetics and cell biology, we have identified some of these proteins and are studying the mechanism of their action.
