Biography
Dr. Kunal Sharan graduated from CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India (Affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi) with a Ph.D. in Life Sciences in 2011. During his doctoral research, he identified and characterised a novel natural molecule of high commercial value as an orally active osteogenic agent. Augmenting his knowledge of bone biology he joined Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Cambridge as a postdoctoral scientist (2011-2014) and gained experience in mouse genetics, embryonic stem cell culture and various cutting-edge techniques related to molecular biology. Here, he studied the genetic and neuroendocrine regulation of bone remodelling. At CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore Dr. Sharan's lab is engaged in the research projects related to the role of nutrition in the programming, growth, maintenance and metabolism of the skeleton.
Research Interest
Maternal nutrition and bone health, Epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of bone metabolism, Nutritional modulators of bone remodeling.
