Biography
Sutapa Mukherji is a theoretical physicist with primary interest in Statistical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Biological Physics. Before joining CFTRI, Mysore in February, 2015, she has worked at the Physics departments of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (1998-2002) and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2002-2015) as assistant and associate professor. The following details might give a brief description of the areas in which she has worked during her stay in IITs. Recently, she has developed a strong interest in Systems Biology and she is interested in understanding mechanisms of stress response of bacteria using various modelling tools.
Research Interest
1. Systems Biology: Stress response in bacterial cells 2. Biological Physics: Transport processes inside the cell, growth dynamics of microtubules 3. Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics, Thermodynamics: Phases and phase transitions of driven many-particle systems (asymmetric simple exclusion processes (ASEP)); Entropy production and fluctuation theorems for single particle nonequilibrium systems subjected to noisy environment.
