Biography
Dr. Ranjan Sen is currently a Chief Scientist and head in the department of Glass Division CSIR Central glass and ceramic research institute India. He completed B.E. (Chemical Engg.), Jadavpur University, Kolkata, M.E. (Chemical Engg.) Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Ph. D. (Chemical Engg.) Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He was awarded DAAD Fellowship in 1990-91, Deokaran Award of Indian Ceramic Society in 1991, Best paper award in OECC 2003 Conference in China, Invitation from TU Braunschweig, Germany to join as a guest Scientist during 2004-05, Royal society award project in 2008 with City University, London.
Research Interest
Dr. Ranjan Sen is holding the position of Chief Scientist and Head, Glass Division at CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata. As head of the group, he is leading a number of major programmes on technology development of specialty glasses such as high density glass for radiation protection, Nd-doped laser glass, and glass beads for nuclear waste immobilization etc. He is also active in the area of energy-efficient process of glass melting. He is Head, Fiber Optics & Photonics Division (FOPD) too: a Division he has been closely associated with for the last 30 years. At FOPD he is leading a number of national and international sponsored projects in the field of specialty optical fibers. Currently, Dr Sen’s prime research interest is in the field of high power fiber lasers for industrial/medical applications, specialty fibers for adverse environments and specialty glasses for laser application. He is working in close unison with Industries, user organizations and reputed Institutions, both in India and abroad, for development of technology/ products in the above fields.
