Biography
Dr. Somnath Bandyopadhyay received M.Sc. Tech. degree in Applied Physics Calcutta University, Calcutta, India. He worked in the field of optical computing and pattern recognition leading to his Ph.D. degree from the same university. In 1998 he joined Central Scientific Instruments organization (CSIO), Chandigarh, a research institute of CSIR, India as a scientist and during his stay at CSIO developed systems like ‘Dispergraph’, an image processing based analytical instrument used in rubber industry and optical fiber based intrusion detection system. He is in Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), another Institute of the CSIR, since year 2002. He had a major role towards initiation of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based activities at CGCRI.
Research Interest
Application of FBG sensors for structural health monitoring in aerospace and civil engineering application, ultrasonic sensing for damage detection in structure, long period grating sensors with overlay structure for chemical and biological sensing applications, FBG for ultra high temperature application.
