Prof. A. M. Wani

Biography

Prof. A. M. Wani is working as an Professor in the Department of Information Technology, Central University of Kashmir. With a degree in Electrical Engineering followed by Doctorate in Electrical Engineering / Biomedical Engineering from I.I.T. Delhi (1974), he continued his studies in Electronics Design and Technology and Computer Sciences. His field of research has been Computer and Microprocessor Applications , Electronics Design and Biomedical Engineering. His major research activity was as Chief Investigator for an R and D project sponsored by Govt. of India entitled “ Microprocessor based Carpet Weaving System “ . He has filed three Patents in this area in 2008 and 2009 He has taught courses in Electronics , Computer Sciences and Biomedical Engineering (both U.G. and P.G. ) and provided guidance to M.Tech and Ph.D. thesis. As a Founder-Head of Electronics & Communication Engg. Department at REC Srinagar he has been responsible for setting up of laboratories in the department and as Coordinator Computer Centre , established LAN and internet facilities at N.I.T. Srinagar. He has provided advice and consultancy to educational institutions in the areas of Electronics and Computer sciences. He has been closely associated with the University of Kashmir and Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar for Hi-tech areas and activities from 1981 . This includes setting up of Electronic Exchanges , LAN and Computerizing of Hospital records and information ,Security and Surveillance system project. He spent one year’s sabbatical leave at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles studying an M S Programme in Computer Sciences during 1989 – 90. He was Acting Principal of Regional Engineering College for about one and a half years during a crucial period of 1991 and 1992 and the period was exceptionally smooth and peaceful time for the college. He took over as Principal Regional Engg. College (REC) on May 1, 2002 and was responsible for streamlining of its Academic Calendar and upgrading the REC to National Institute of Technology ( NIT ) and was designated as its first Director. After attaining the age of 60 years, he was re-appointed as Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering up to the age of 65 years. . He was later invited by the Central University of Kashmir to join it as Professor (On contract) of Information Technology (I.T.) Department and has been its coordinator .At present he is an Adjunct Professor ( Full time ) in the same.
