Biography
Dr. Chandan Kumar B earned his Master’s degree from Kuvempu University, Shimoga in 2008 and Ph.D. from Karnatak University, Dharwad in 2015. His doctoral research mainly focused on understanding the genesis and the geodynamic setting of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Dharwar-Shimoga greenstone belt of Western Dharwar Craton, using petrographic and petrochemical data. He joined CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad as Research Associate in 2015 and worked there for a brief period of time. Later, he joined Department of Studies in Geology, Karnatak University as Teaching Assistant where he taught Archaean Geology and Petrology to postgraduate students. He has qualified CSIR-UGC NET in Earth Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences in 2010 and Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) for Lectureship in Earth Sciences in 2014. He is a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a Member of Geochemical Society. In July 2016, he joined Central University of Kerala as Assistant Professor in Department of Geology. His research utilizes the rock archive to better understand (1) magmatism, continental growth and tectonics through time (2) the interaction between crust and mantle to quantify the geochemical heterogeneity of mantle to firmly establish the dynamics and long-term evolution of the earth through multidisciplinary approach involving extensive field and laboratory work. His research interests are field oriented, analytically intensive and focus on the utilization of rock archives, synthesized from extensive thin section studies, major/trace/REE element data and measurement of a number of radiogenic isotopes.
Research Interest
1. Solid earth geochemistry 2. Magmatism, continental growth and tectonics through time.
