Biography

Dr. Muthukumar Muthuchamy is handling Environmental Engineering, Environmental Impact Assessment as core subjects for M.Sc, Environmental Science students in addition he also handles Occupational health and Industrial Safety as an elective paper which will be opted by students from various disciplines. He usually encourages Industrial visits and field study as a part of curriculum and had organised a number of industrial visits and ecotourism. During the past eleven years of his career as an Assistant Professor he guided 33 post graduate dissertations, 6 pre doctoral thesis and 8 PhD thesis. He gives more importance in updating his knowledge by attending international conferences, delivering lectures in conferences, workshops etc., In spite of his busy schedule, he never failed to continue his studies by doing post graduate diplomas and certification course in his current field of interest. In addition he is a great sportsman and excellent basketball player. Apart from teaching he is doing excellent research in the areas of Water and Wastewater treatment using Ozone, Advanced Oxidation Processes, Photocatalysis, Electrochemical Processes, Microbial Fuel Cells, Sludge Reduction Process, Hydrogen Production from Wastes. He is skilled in handling UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, FT-IR, HPLC (Shimadzu), GC-MS (Agilent 1100 Series), Total Organic Carbon Analyzer (Analytika Jenna), Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (GBC-Avanta), Particle Size Analyser (CILAS-1180), and Zeta-meter System 3.0+. He is expertise in statistical modelling using computer software like Design Expert, Systat 10, SPSS and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). He has been awarded ‘Young Scientist’, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (2007). His research articles placed 2ndand 10thposition of Top 25 Hottest Articles by Elsevier, USA (2005). His research articles got Best Paper Award from various International and National conferences. Presently he is carrying out new perspective of research in collaboration with Professors and Scientist at University of Concepcion Chile, Latin America, National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR), Chennai, India, National Institute of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Trivandrum, India. He received projects from various funding agencies such as Defence Research and Development Organisation, University Grants Commission, Department of Science and Technology, and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, BARC, Mumbai.
