Biography
Dr Rishiram Ramanan has been working at the intersection of R&D, Industry and Policy in the Environmental Science & Technology Sector for more than a decade. His PhD research at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI)was a first of its kind thesis on biological CO2 sequestration in India.Subsequently, he worked on Clean Development Mechanism Projects for Indian Industry Clients which were later approved by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).He joined Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), a leading industry chamber in India, and worked on projects and policies, often apprising Government of India about industry views and needs in the Environment, Climate Change and Renewable Energy sectors. Dr Ramanan was associated with Korea Research Institute of Bioscience & Biotechnology (KRIBB) from 2011-2016 as a Visiting Scientist researching on various aspects of the algal biofuel challenge. His research on lipid signaling and autophagy in algae, algal-bacterial interactions and applications encompasses algal biology, ecology and biotechnology. He has authored 21 SCI publications and 5 technical/ policy reports so far.
