Biography
Dr. Sijin Kumar obtained his Master’s degree in Geology from Kannur University with gold medal and Ph.D. from CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. Dr. Sijin Kumar was working as Assistant Professor at Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research in Geology, Govt. College Kasaragod since 2007 and joined CUK on Aug. 2016. Before that he was working as Scientific Officer-C at Dept. of Atomic Energy, Atomic Mineral Directorate, Hyderabad. He received prestigious UGC Raman Fellowship for postdoctoral research to work with Prof. Steven Clemens at Brown University, USA (2014-2015). He also awarded a short-term FLAIR Research Fellowship to work at GEOMAR, Kiel, Germany. His research interests include reconstruction of Indian monsoon variability during late Quaternary period, aragonitic pteropod preservation and Paleo-ocean acidification, stable oxygen isotope studies of foraminifera and pteropods and Environmental Impact Assessment of marine mineral resources. He is a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a former Member of Board of Studies of Kannur University. He also served as Chairman, Board of Examiners (M.Sc. and B.Sc. Geology) Kannur University. Dr. Sijin Kumar has published more than nine research articles in high impact peer reviewed international journals (QSR, Paleo-3, Marine Geology, Marine Micropaleontology, Boreas etc.) and six articles in national journals and proceedings. He also presented his research works in four international conference/workshops held at Germany, U.S.A and Nepal. Dr. Kumar has also received two Best Research Paper Awards (2012 and 2013) for his paper presentations in the International Conferences held at IITM, Pune. During his past 9 years of his career as an assistant professor he guided 14 postgraduate dissertations and presented 23 research papers in national/international conferences. He was a scientific member of two Research Expedition to Central Indian Ocean Basin on board Research Vessel Academic Boris Petrove (2006 & 2009). Apart from teaching, he was involved in various extensional works as a program officer National Service Scheme (2008-2009), NCC officer (2009-2011), Co-ordinator, International Earth Science Olympiad, Test Centre Govt. College Kasaragod, Co-ordinator, National Knowledge Mission and All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), Govt. College Kasaragod.
