Biography
Dr. Gurushankara did his MSc in Zoology with specialization in Drosophila Genetics from University of Mysore and obtained his PhD in Zoology from Kuvempu University, Karnataka. He served as an adhoc faculty in the Department of Environmental Science at Kuvempu University, Department of Bioscience at University of Mysore and did his post-doctoral research with UGC- Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Mysore and Indian Institute of Science. He has also worked as Coordinator (Biology) at Talent Development Centre, IISc, Bangalore. He has worked in the Department of Animal Science, at Central University of Kerala since 2010 as a guest faculty and joined as a regular faculty in 2013. He has published 15 research papers and presented his research results in national/international conferences. Many of his general scientific articles are published in Kannada encyclopaedia (ViswaKosha) and in books. He is the scientific reviewer for many prestigious International journals. He is the life member of Society of Biological Chemist, Indian Immunological Society, and so on. He has been invited to give lectures at many colleges/workshops/refresher courses. Currently, he is having 3 research projects funded by UGC, DBT and DST. He has research collaborations with Indian Institute of Science, Kuvempu University and Manipal University. Dr. Gurushankara’s current research interests are on Molecular Phylogeny and Conservation Genetics of amphibians, Oxidative stress and Carcinogenesi s, Natural peptides: Structure and Function.
