Biography
Dr. Sameer, after qualifying MSc (2002) with first rank and clearing CSIR JRF, did his M.Phil. and PhD (2008) from University of Kerala, India, under the mentorship of Prof. P.R. Sudhakaran. Dr. V.B. Sameer Kumar had been working thereafter as a postdoctoral researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Sciences, Israel till 2010 in Prof. David Wallach's lab. After finishing his fellowship at the WIS, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Biplab Dasgupta's lab at the Cincinnati Childrens’s Hospital Medical Centre, USA till he joined Central University of Kerala as Assistant Professor towards the end of 2011. He specializes in the areas of: Tumor biology, Endothelial cell biology, angiogenesis, functional analysis of non-coding RNA and protein engineering. At present his lab is engaged in the projects to a tune of Rs. 74 Lakhs funded by DST, DBT and KSCSTE, which are related to elucidating the role of miRNA in anti-cancer drug resistance and tumor angiogenesis. Work in his lab also focuses on the metabolic regulation of angiogenesis and various aspects of endothelial cell behavior. His lab is working in collaboration with scientists at the Central Leather Research Institute, Indian Institute of Science and University of Kerala. Currently 8 students are working for PhD under his guidance and have successfully guided more than 30 M.Sc. dissertations and 4 M.Phil. dissertations. He has published 23 research articles in peer reviewed international journals and books of repute like Nature communications, IJBCB, JCP, JCB etc. and has presented his work at several National and International Conferences many of which were recognized with an award. Apart from his academic responsibilities as a teacher, researcher and resource personnel for other institutions, he is actively involved in the corporate life of the University.
