Biography
Dr. Girish Chandra received doctoral degree from Department of Chemistry, IIT Bombay. After completion of Ph.D., he joined Tata College Chaibasa, Ranchi University as Assistant Professor (Permanent Position). After serving one year in Tata College, he moved to Ewha Womans University, Seoul, S. Korea to pursue postdoctoral Research. Dr. Girish Chandra published research papers in peer-reviewed journals like Organic Letters, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry etc. Dr. Girish Chandra is a synthetic Organic Chemist. During his PhD he developed a novel methodology for the synthesis of highly functionalized bicyclo[2.2.2]octenone which was utilized for the construction of basic framework of bicyclo[3.3.0], bicyclo[4.2.0]octanoids, homoisotwistane carbon framework (tricyclo[5.3.1.03,8]undecane). He completed the formal total synthesis of ceratopicanol and synthesized the basic framework of ptychanolide. As a postdoctoral fellow he was involved with the synthesis of modified nucleosides for the development of HCV, HIV and anti cancer drugs. Developed a novel methodology for the synthesis of vinylic fluoride, which was utilised for the synthesis of homo fluoroneplanocin A. This compound was found to be effective anti-cancer drug which is comparable to gemcitabine, widely used anti-cancer medicine (Organic Letters, 14, 2134-2137, 2012 and US Patent 2013/0310403 A1).
