Biography
Manju Menon is a senior fellow at CPR, where she directs the environmental justice program of Namati, an international NGO dedicated to legal empowerment. In partnership with civil society groups and governments, Namati implements and evaluates new models for decentralised resource governance and environmental compliance. Manju researches the environmental decision making process in the regulatory and public arenas. She holds a Master’s degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and is currently writing her doctoral thesis to submit to the Centre for Studies in Science Policy at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Manju was awarded the Nehru-Fulbright fellowship in 2011, and has been a member of Kalpavriksh, an environment research group, since 2000.
Research Interest
She is interested in the processes of environmental law making and implementation related to the siting and regulation of infrastructure projects. She has investigated these processes in the context of hydropower, coal, and nuclear power projects. Manju collaborates with local community organisations and regional and thematic networks on this research and on advocacy for improved decision making processes.
