Ramesh Chandran

Biography

Ramesh Chandran is a senior fellow at CPR, and director of the Governance & Public Policy Initiative (GPPI), based at the Centre. GPPI collaborates with universities including Yale, Princeton, Oxford, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Sydney to organise international academic programs for Indian parliamentarians on health, the environment, education, urbanisation, and women's issues. GPPI also hosts domesitc seminars on the same topics. By fostering sustained discussion and debate, this Initiative aims to develop innovative approaches to effective and accountable governance and promote political and social entrepreneurship. Before joining CPR, Mr Chandran ran the Forums of Parliamentarians program at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Ramesh Chandran also had a distinguished career at The Times of India, serving as foreign editor and Washington, DC bureau chief. During this period, he travelled extensively across the US and North America including covering the 1996 and 2000 presidential elections. He also reported on the first Gulf War from Baghdad and covered the conflicts in Afghanistan and the Middle East. Mr Chandran served on the jury of the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalism (ICIJ).
