Biography
Dr Sanjaya Baru is a member of the governing board of CPR and an honorary senior visiting fellow at the Centre. He also serves as Director for Geo-economics and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. From May 2004 until August 2008 Dr Baru was the official spokesman and media advisor for the Prime Minister of India. Dr Baru has had a long career as a journalist, serving as editor of the Business Standard, chief editor of the Financial Express, and associate editor of the Economic Times and the Times of India. Dr Baru has taught at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations in New Delhi, in the department of economics at the University of Hyderabad, and at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. He has served as a member of India's National Security Advisory Board and of the India-ASEAN Eminent Persons Group. Dr Baru has published extensively on economic and strategic policy in India and abroad. His books include The Strategic Consequences of India's Economic Performance (Routledge, 2007) and The Accidental Prime Minister (Penguin, 2014).
