Biography
Ashutosh Kumar was a postdoctoral Research Fellow on AHRC ‘Becoming Coolies’ Project at University of Leeds, United Kingdom. After finishing his PhD from Department of History, University of Delhi in 2012, he taught for two and half year at Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi. He was fellow at The Centre for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition at Yale University and at Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla. His most recent publication is Coolies of the Empire: Indentured Indians in the Sugar Colonies, 1830-1920, Cambridge University Press, 2017.
Research Interest
He has also contributed several articles and reviews on Indian politics to edited volumes and to well-known journals like the Economic and Political Weekly, International Journal of Punjab Studies, Pacific Affairs, Contemporary India, Indian Journal of Political Science, Seminar, and Journal of Asian and African Studies.
