Biography

T. Anjana Devi received her PhD from Centre for cellular and molecular biology (CCMB) in 2009. Her doctoral research work at CCMB involved study of regulation of the activity of enzyme ADPglucosepyrophosphorylase which catalyzes the rate limiting step in starch biosynthesis in rice grains. During her doctoral tenure, she has had adequate exposure to various molecular biology and biochemistry approaches and significantly to the proteomics techniques. She has presented her work in several prestigious International and National conferences (18).After her doctoral tenure at CCMB, she joined as Junior Scientist at the chemical biology department of CSIR-IICT in November 2008. Initially, she was involved as an coordinating and contributing member in the IX th FYP project which was mainly concerned with screening of small molecules as anticancer agents (NFk-B, HDAC inhibitors, antitubulin agents etc) using various in vitro and in vivo tests. Her research interests lie mainly in applying molecular biology and proteomic based approaches to understand the underlying mechanisms behind disease pathology (in different cancers), or a particular mechanism in a biological system. Currently, she has 2 ongoing projects funded by DBT. She has co-guided 8 students and guided 4 students for partial fulfillment of the post graduation degree and presently three research scholars are pursuing PhD under her guidance.

Research Interest

Present research interest is to identify small molecule modulators of Retinoblastoma eye tumor by molecular and cell biology approaches coupled with functional proteomic approach.   In Vitro screening and biological evaluation of small molecules as anticancer agents and elucidating the mechanism of action followed.   Analysis of molecular recognition process in plants by proteomic approaches.   Proteomic analysis and identification of biomarkers of cardiac hypertrophy.
