Biography
Basically a theoretical /computational chemist having interests in organic molecules which find applications in OLED, DSSC, NLO, OPV and NIR. A visiting scientist in 1998-1999 at ICS-UNIDO, Trieste, Italy and 2003-2004 at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA. Foreign invited scientist in 2013 at University of Rennes, Rennes, France. Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from St. Albert’s, College, Cochin (Kerala University) in the year 1979. Post Graduation (M. Sc) in Chemistry from University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad in the year 1981. Joined IISC, Bangalore for PhD under the guidance of Prof. A. K. Chandra in IPC department in 1981. Submitted the doctoral Thesis “ Theoretical Studies of Weak Intermolecular Interactions “ in 1986 March. Left for post doctoral work to Wuppertal, Germany in September 1986. Carried out research in Prof. R. J. Buenker’s group, Bergische University, Wuppertal from Sept 1986 to January 1990. Came back to India and joined IICT in 1990 June as a QRS fellow. Later obtained the position of Scientist C in 1992. Became Chief Scientist in 2011.
Research Interest
The work being carried out by us is in the field of organic molecular materials. These include the design and synthesis of organic light emitting diodes(OLED), Non linear optical materials(NLO), Dye sensitized solar cells(DSSC) and near infra red absorbing dyes(NIR). The main aim is to replace the more costly and bulkier inorganic counterparts by using the above materials. The organic materials have a major advantage namely possibility of incorporating them into devices which can be made flexible.
