Biography
Dr. Sharma’s research interests include synthesis of natural products, peptides and new drug discovery. He developed new and process routes for lead molecules, while, one of his NCEs, IICT-TA67 (PDE-4), is into phase-I clinical trials. He worked with several industries like, Cytomed, USA; SmithKline Beecham, UK; ArQule, USA; DuPont, USA; Givaudan, Switzerland; Dabur and Ranbaxy, India, on diverse aspects. He has 42 Ph. D.s, around 205 publications and 15 patents to his credit. Dr. Sharma received CSIR Young Scientist Award (1992), NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award (2007), Ranbaxy Research Award (2008), AP Scientist Award (2009), OPPI Scientist Award (2010) for his contributions related to Human Health. He is a Fellow of AP Akademy of Sciences, Hyderabad (2006), National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad (2009) and Royal Society of Chemistry, London (UK).
Research Interest
Synthesis of natural products, carbohydrates and peptide chemistry; development of new reagents and protocols; Use of short peptides in the design of Intel Coatings; Foldamer Chemistry - Synthesis of non-natural amino acids and peptides to create skeletal and helical diversity; Design and synthesis of NCEs for Asthma, Malaria and Cancer; Chemistry on C-H bond activation and C-N bond forming reactions for the design of novel scaffolds.
