Biography
Halmuthur.M.Sampath Kumar obtained his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad(1995). He later worked on various aspects of agrochemical and pharmaceutical technology development at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad. He moved to Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology at Dortmund in the year 2000, as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow to work with Prof. Herbert Waldmann in the area of nuclear localization and gene therapy. He returned to India in 2002 and continued working at CSIR-IICT and later relocated to erstwhile Regional Research Laboratory-Jammu- presently rechristened as IIIM-Jammu in the year 2004. His research at IIIM-Jammu led to the institution of a new department dedicated for Synthetic and Biological Chemistry research with focus on medicinal chemistry and he served as the chairman of the department till 2009. Dr. Kumar relocated to CSIR-IICT and currently he is the senior Principal scientist and nodal officer for the Vaccine adjuvants programme at IICT-Hyderabad. Focus of his research is on the development of novel small molecule immunomodulators based on natural product scaffolds, vaccine(Th1) adjuvants based on pathogen assocaited molecular patterns and non invasive vaccine delivery systems, peptide epitope based Synthetic vaccines.
