Dr. Sivaprakash Balasundaram

Biography

I was appointed here at MGMCRI in 2002. I have been working as Professor of Psychiatry since March 2011. I have been closely associated with the development of the department of Psychiatry right from its inception. I have played an active role in the development of the UG & PG training program of our department. Management of UG & PG teaching schedules & academic programs in one of my key activities at present. I have played a key role in PG curriculum development, including lists of competencies & entrustable professional activities. I play a major role in the management of the departmental database & our online calendar (This serves as content for crucial quarterly reports being submitted to IQAC & Chronicle). My job responsibilities have included development of the departmental template for PG e-portfolio & creation & dissemination of mental health awareness documents. I am serving as additional faculty in the CMTER, SBVU. I am a resource person in the biannual PG dissertation workshops since 2008. I have been playing a key role in the planning & implementation of communication skills training modules for MBBS students. Additionally, I have been playing a vital role in the development & implementation of the students salutogenesis / well-being program (mental health orientation & psychological screening for 1st year MBBS students & 1st year PG students). 

Research Interest

 I have a special interest in psychosomatic medicine, mind-body medicine, music therapy & mental health literacy.
