Sinosh Skariyachan

Biography

Dr. Sinosh Skariyachan, is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore, Karnataka. After a B. Sc in Microbiology he persuaded two Master degrees, M. Sc in Microbiology and M. Sc in Bioinformatics from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. He has awarded his Ph. D in Biotechnology from Visvesvaraya Technology University, Belgaum, Karnataka. He has thirteen years of experience in teaching and research. His key research domains are Medical, Environmental and Food Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Genomics and Proteomics, Molecular Modeling and Computational Drug Designing. His major research focuses are selection and screening of novel herbal therapeutic against probable drug targets of multidrug resistant bacteria isolated from various sources by computational drug discovery and structure based virtual screening approaches. He has modeled and validated novel drug targets for several pathogenic Gram negative bacteria and viruses such as Ebola by computational biology approaches. He has also screened novel chromophoric and fluorophoric therapeutic metabolites towards drug resistant bacteria from symbiotic bacteria associated with the marine sponges present in coastal areas of South India. He has also been working on the application of novel thermophilic bacterial consortia screened from extreme environments as an eco-friendly approach for the degradation of low and high density polyethylene. In addition to AMI, he is a member of several scientific societies such as American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Association of Microbiologist of India (AMI), Indian Science Congress Association, Society of Biological Chemist (SBC), Environmental Mutagen Society of India (EMSI), International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) etc. He has published 33 International papers in reputed journals with good impact and citation report and presented more than 60 scientific papers in various National and International conferences and symposium. He has authored a text book “Introduction to Food Biotechnology and authored several book chapters for reputed publishers.  He has received several awards such as Young Scientist Award from Association of Microbiologist of India (2016), Young Investigator Award from India and South East Asia from International Society of Infectious Disease (2016), Outstanding Reviewer Award from Elsevier (2016), Best research guide award from Karnataka State Council Science and Technology (2014), Best research paper award in more than 15 National and International conferences. He has received travel grants from American Society for Microbiology, Association Of Microbiologist of India and International Society for Infectious Diseases. He served as the peer reviewer and editorial board member for several reputed international journals. He is a member of board examiners in University of Calicut, University of Kannur and Visvesvarya Technological University, Belgaum. He has received several grants for his research projects from Vision Group of Science and Technology, Department of IT & BT, Govt of Karnataka and Karnataka State Council Science and Technology, IISc, Bangalore.  He has deposited many molecular sequences to the public databases and submitted the novel strains to culture depositories. He has selected as subject expert for Food Biotechnology in the Edusat Programme conducted by Visveswarya Technological University during 2012. At present he is the content reviewer for UGC sponsored programme  on E-content development for Bioinformatics by Education and MultiMedia & Research Centre (EMMRC), University of Calicut.  He was plenary speaker for several National conferences and symposium on emerging trends in Bioinformatics and allied disciplines. He was also an invited delegate for several workshops and training programs organized by esteemed research institutes. He has organized training programs and conferences in Microbiology, computational biology and allied disciplines for the undergraduate and post graduate students. He has guided more than 50 undergraduate students (BE/B. Tech) and more than 12 post graduate students in M. Sc & M. Tech for their final year dissertation work. He has extended his co-curricular activities in different area such as social service, community awareness and cultural exchange programme. He has been an active member of National Service Scheme (NSS) during his graduation and post graduation and attended several National level symposium and training programmes. He was awarded as the best NSS volunteer in 2002 and 2003.
