Biography
Dr Savitri Sharma is the Director of the laboratory services of the network of L.V. Prasad Eye Institutes (LVPEI) at Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. She is an alumnus of VSS Medical College, Burla (MBBS) and JIPMER, Pondicherry (MD). She joined L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad in 1991 and established the ocular microbiology and clinical pathology services of the institute. She is the recipient of several grants from DBT, CSIR, DST, Bausch & Lomb International Research Program, British Contact Lens Association etc. She was involved in the development of the Vision Chip (Xcyton) under CSIR (NMITLI) grant. She has been the Editor in chief of Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology (IJMM) for two terms and the President of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM) in 2008-9 and the President of Society for Indian Human and Animal Mycologists (SIHAM) in 2012-14. She has received 22 awards and honors from various national and international associations. She has authored a book on "Ocular Microbiology" and has published 16 book chapters and 223 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She has guided several PhD students and her present interests are virulence factors of Fusarium spp., molecular diagnosis of eye infections, ocular microsporidiosis, hospital infection control etc.
