Biography
Dr. Hemayun Akhtar nazmi is currently working as Assistant Professor at the Centre for West Asian Studies , Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He hold Masters in Modern Arabic from the School of Languages and Literature, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and another in Islamic Studies from the Department of Islamic Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He has obtained his M.Phil degree from the Centre for West Asian and African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and the dissertation was "A Comparative Study of Muhammad Abduh and Hassan Al-Banna’s Perception of an Ideal Islamic Society." and Ph.D from the department of Islamic Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and the thesis topic was "Islamic Fundamentalism: A Comparative Study of Egypt ,Algeria and Saudi Arabia". He has been awarded Indo-French Social Scientist Cultural Exchange Programme fellowship (2006). He has visited many West Asian countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE in connection with his research and other academic activities. He is currently working on a book related to the “Arab spring”. He specializes in the historical aspects of West Asia, Cultural affinity between India and west Asia. His other area of interest is Indo-Arab Relations and Western perception of Islam. Dr Hemayun Akhtar Nazmi authored three books and a number of articles on various Academic Journals. Dr. Hemayun Akhtar Nazmi teaching two courses “ Religion, Culture and Society in West Asia” and the “History and Culture in Saudi Arabia” at the Centre for West Asian Studies, JMI, New Delhi 110025.
