Biography
Mr Rajani Ranjan Rashmi is a senior member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of 1983 batch and is currently Special Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. In his current role, he is responsible for all areas of International Cooperation in the Ministry and is the Government's chief negotiator for environment treaties relating to climate change and Ozone depleting substances, amongst others. Mr R ashmi has worked long in the field of environment. As Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment & Forests from 2008 to 2013, he was India’s focal point for multilateral negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In t his position, he also played a key role in shaping India’s domestic and international response to climate change. Mr Rashmi is an experienced trade negotiator. He has served two stints in the Minis try of Commerce & Industry, Government of India where he was first Director of Europe Division from 1998 to 2001 and then Advisor, Trade in India’s Mission to European Union in Brussels till 2004. Mr Rashmi has served for several years in the North East as an able administrator in the state of MANIPUR. In rec ognition of his services to the state, he received, in 2008, the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. Mr Rashmi is a graduate in Economics from Patna University and holds a degree in MBA from the Free University (Vriet Universi tiet) of Brussels.
