Biography
Vice President, Drug Discovery Company Name Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Dates Employed May 2001 – Present Employment Duration 16 yrs 5 mos Location Mumbai I joined Glenmark as a principal scientist on May 21, 2001 and grew to the level of vice president and head of the department with increasing scientific and managerial responsibilities at Glenmark. My job focus has been in new drug discovery involving design of new molecules, synthesis and development with an orientation towards commercialization of the product. My exposure to process development, understanding of issues in the manufacturing process and impact of these issues on the developmental process have equipped me with a greater insight into the commercial viability at the earlier stages of drug development and has fuelled my interest in this area. I am currently managing a team of 26 people including 4 direct reports at the level of group leaders. Administrative responsibilities and frequent interactions and coordination with IPM, analytical research, pharmacology, DMPK and project management team are key areas of contribution in my current profile. I have published 24 research articles including one review article in reputed international journals. I have so far 49 patent publications of which several are granted in PCT and non-PCT countries. Two proprietary molecules were out-licensed - one to Merck KGaA and other Sanofi-Aventis. Another molecule has successfully completed phase 2a proof-of-concept (POC) studies for the treatment of diabetic neuropathic pain.
