G. Thirumaran

Biography

Dr. G. Thirumaran, a Project Scientist in Coastal and Marine Ecology Division, holds M.Sc. in Oceanography, and M. Phil. and Ph.D in Marine Biology from Centre of Advanced in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, India and Post Doctorate from Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. He has received the prestigious Research Excellence award from China Postdoctoral Science Foundation and Foreign Expert award (April 2010 to April 2012) from Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. His specialization includes Fisheries, Seaweeds, seagrasses, Phytoplankton and Zooplankton. He has established aquaculture techniques and offered training programmes to fisher folk communities, coastal dwellers, tsunami affected self help groups, coastal poor’s and NGOs in collaboration with PepsiCo Holding Private Limited and Aquaculture Foundation of India. He has published 45 research papers in reputed national and International peer reviewed Journals, 12 papers in proceedings of various national and international conferences. He has also published a workshop manual on seaweed culture. He has participated in various training programmes at national and International level and has research linkages with national and international scientists working at Institute of Hydrobiology, Jinan University, China,and Department of Marine Botany, School of Biology, Long Island University, Southampton, New York USA.
