Biography
Jharna Pathak has a Ph.D. in Economics from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad (through the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research, Ahmedabad). Her doctoral research attempted to examine the contribution and performance of water use in farm and non-farm sectors and the impact of institutions on sustainable farm water use in Gujarat. Before joining GIDR she had taught Microeconomics, Development Economics and Econometrics at various management institutes in Ahmedabad. She has taken part in large scale field studies on issues in tribal agriculture in Gujarat. More recently, she has been involved in studies like community natural resource management (with the focus on inland fishing) and poverty in India, assessment of Systems of Rice and Wheat Intensification towards sustainable agriculture under diverse agro-climatic settings in India. Her major areas of research include institutions and policies with a special focus on agriculture, water and fisheries.
Research Interest
She has presented papers at a number of academic seminars and conferences and has been feted with an award of Best Paper Presenter by the GAD Institute of Development Studies, Amritsar in 2010.
