Biography
R. Parthasarathy has a PhD in Economics from the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. He was till recently a Professor at the Faculty of Planning, CEPT University, Ahmedabad where he taught Natural Resources Management and Environmental Economics to Postgraduate and Graduate students, besides guiding Masters and PhD dissertations.
Research Interest
In his research he explores relations between natural resource management and social distributions of power, leadership, economic development and the impacts of policy and development organizations on these relations. In all these, the special focus has been on the intervention by governments both at policy and at the level of implementation. In his works, an investigation of how social and economic concepts, the organization of knowledge, and scientific research affect public discourse and actions toward environmental problems are attempted. This focus relates the impacts of institutional relations on the management of water and river basins including irrigation and other uses. His recent studies on water focus on fisheries, mangroves and coastal cities. He is also working on the various intra and inter-relations between large urban cities and their peripheral areas. A nested framework is being attempted to understand the various dimensions and implications on a range of issues like land use, food security, climate change, human vulnerabilities and natural disasters.
